The Naranjeros de Hermosillo beat the Tomateros de Culiacan by a 6-3 score in Mexican Winter League action last night. Mets minor league reliever Paul Sewald pitched a perfect ninth inning to pick up his fifth winter league save.

Sewald has pitched seven innings for Naranjeros in which he’s allowed one run on five hits. He has yet to issue a walk and has struck out five.

On the opposing side, Mets pitching prospect Jose Carlos Medina pitched 2.1 innings for Tomateros. He gave up one run on three hits, two walks and struck out two. The young lefty has seven strikeouts in seven innings to go along with a 2.57 ERA.

The Scottsdale Scorpions lost their fifth straight game yesterday and dropped to a league worst 3-11 on the season. The only Mets player to participate was Tim Tebow who went 1 for 4 with a double, his first extra base hit in the Arizona Fall League. It was a 109 MPH line drive to left center off Phillies prospect Alex McRae who reached Double-A during the regular season.

Tebow is now 3 for 28 with nine strikeouts in AFL action. All three of his hits have come to the opposite field.

Catcher Tomas Nido has been removed from the Scottsdale Scorpions roster without making an appearance. He was on the taxi squad which made him only eligible to play on Wednesday and Saturday games.

No current Mets player was involved in the Dominican Winter League but Fernando Martinez made his debut with a fly out as a pinch hitter for the Estrellas Orientales. He’s playing on the same team as Jordany Valdespin who is hitting .389 in 18 at-bats.
