According to Adam Rubin, Mets shortstop prospect Gavin Cecchini has received a cortisone shot in his left shoulder for inflammation.

Gavin is coming off a great offensive season in which he hit .317/.377/.442 on his way to being an Eastern League all-star and was the Rookie of the Year for the league.

He was 5 for 13 with four walks and five runs scored in the Arizona Fall League with the Salt River Rafters before being shutdown with a shoulder strain. He was also on the preliminary roster for Team USA in the inaugural Premier 12 Tournament, the US team finished second to South Korea.

Cecchini also missed ten days during the 2015 regular season with groin tightness for Binghamton in April. He was shutdown in late August with what was called a hip impingement.

The 22-year old was recently named to MLB.com’s Top 100 Prospects placing 87th on the list. He is slated to being the season with the Las Vegas 51’s.
