The Las Vegas 51s (19-31) came home to Cashman Field Saturday Night to start a four-game series against the El Paso Chihuahuas. They sent right-hander Wilfredo Boscan to the mound and he got off to a rocky start. He allowed a one-out double and then a two out single which scored the Chihuahuas first run. El Paso right fielder Jabari Blash tried to stretch his RBI single into a double but was cut down by a good throw from centerfielder Brandon Nimmo to second-baseman Gavin Cecchini to limit the damage.

With one out in the bottom of the first, shortstop Amed Rosario singled, reaching on an infield hit. Then first baseman Dominic Smith came up and smashed a two-run home run to right center to get the 51s the lead at 2-1.

After a scoreless second, Boscan surrendered two more runs in the top of the third. But the 51s batters rallied in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead. After back to back singles by Nimmo and Rosario, Smith came up again and doubled into left to drive in two more. Right fielder Travis Taijeron singled to move Smith to third, who then scored on a ground out by left-fielder Desmond Jennings.

With the 51s up 5-3, El Paso got one back in the top of the fourth, and then two more in the fifth to take back the lead. After giving up one more run in the sixth, that was it for Boscan who went six innings giving up seven runs (six earned), on ten hits, walking three and striking out two. He took the loss dropping his record to 0-3 on the season. Righty Ben Rowen gave up another run in the seventh. In the bottom half of the inning, Vegas got back a run after loading the bases on a double by catcher Jeff Glenn and two walks to pinch hitter Jayce Boyd and Nimmo. A ground out by Rosario drove in the 51s final run.

The 51s got a solid two scoreless inning performance from reliever Kyle Regnault, recently back up from Binghamton. He gave up one hit and one walk while striking out two. But the offense didn’t have another rally in them and so Las Vegas too the loss by a final score of 8-6.
