The New York Mets have recalled Dominic Smith from Triple-A Las Vegas to be the 26th man on the roster for tonight’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Major League Baseball has permitted both the Mets and the Phillies to carry an extra player on their Major League roster for tonight’s Little League Classic in Williamsport.

The allotment for another player on the roster comes at an opportune time for the Mets with Brandon Nimmo being unavailable to play the past few days after injuring his hand.

In Triple-A, Smith has played in the outfield in 17 of his last 22 games, and he has played a total of 245.1 innings in the outfield this year between Las Vegas and the Mets.

Since Smith was sent down to Triple-A on July 22, he is hitting .242/.300/.429 with five doubles, four homers, and 13 RBI.

In 28 games with the Mets, Smith is hitting .183/.216/.324 with five doubles, a triple, a homer, and an RBI.

Previous reports had indicated the Mets preferred to keep Smith in Triple-A until Las Vegas’ season ended to get more reps in the outfield. With that being the Mets previous position, barring Nimmo being placed on the disabled list, we should reasonably anticipate Smith being sent back to to Las Vegas after this game.
