The St. Lucie Mets have named outfielder John Mora as their player of the month and right-handed starter Chris Flexen as their pitcher of the month for the Month of June.

Mora signed the Mets out of the Dominican Republic as a 19 year old, and this is his first year with the St. Lucie Mets. Mora had a big month reaching base in all but three of the 22 games he played in the month. He had 10 multi-hit games, and he ended the month with a five game hitting streak.

Overall, Mora hit .360/.415/.442 with four doubles, one homer, eight RBI, and one stolen base. On the season, Mora is hitting .256/335/.331 with 11 doubles, three triples, two homers, 26 RBI, and four stolen bases.

Flexen was the Mets 2012 14th round draft pick out of Memorial High School in Newark, CA. Like Mora, this is Flexen’s first year with St. Lucie. Flexen burst right out of the gate in the Month of June with a complete game one-hit shutout against the Minnesota Twins affiliate Fort Myers Miracle. In four of Flexen’s six June starts, he allowed one run or less.

For the month, Flexen made six starts going 2-2 with a 2.45 ERA and 1.272 WHIP. On the season, he is 5-9 with a 3.87 ERA and a 1.322 WHIP. Flexen leads the team with 95.1 innings pitched and is tied for the team lead with Corey Oswalt for strikeouts with 63.

The previous players of the month were Amed Rosario for the Month of April and Kevin Taylor for the Month of May. The previous pitchers of the month were Tim Peterson for the Month of April and Ricky Knapp for the Month of May. Rosario, Peterson, and Knapp have been called-up to AA Binghamton after having been given their awards.
