St. Lucie 4, Fort Myers 3

After a brutal performance in his previous starts, Domingo Tapia rebounded last night in St. Lucie’s 4-3 victory over the Fort Myers Miracle.  Tapia surrendered only one earned run off three hits and three walks in in five innings pitched.  Tapia yielded an early RBI single to Stephen Wickens with one out in the first, but he settled down and pitched effectively the rest of the start.

While St. Lucie’s offense struggled against  Miracle’s starter Taylor Rogers, they managed to pull off a dramatic comeback off Miracle’s closer, Tyler Jones.  Dustin Lawley, who had just hit his league leading 25th home run in his previous at bat, started the rally in the 9th with a soft single to right field with no outs.  Rylan Sandoval continued the rally with another single to right, and Matt Reynolds drove in the tying run with a line drive hit to centerfield.  With the game tied 3-3 in the bottom of the 9th, Robbie Shields delivered the game winning hit on a single to left field.

St. Lucie extends their winning streak to five games, and they now lead the Southern division by 1.5 games. St. Lucie will look to continue their winning streak tonight in game two of the series against Fort Meyers. Matthew Bowman will face off against Miracles’ starter, Matthew Tomshaw.
