Syracuse Mets manager Brian Schneider has been named the Mets new quality control coach. In addition to being the quality control coach, Schneider will take over catching instruction for team from Tony DeFrancesco, who coincidentally, is the person Schneider was originally hired to replace.

DeFrancesco was the Mets Triple-A manager from 2018 – 2019. This offseason, he was promoted to be the Mets first base coach and catching coordinator. DeFrancesco will now be the outfield/baserunning coach, which was under the purview of Luis Rojas before his promotion.

Rojas’s promotion came when Carlos Beltran and the New York Mets mutually agreed to part ways. As noted, Rojas previous position as quality control coach will now be filled by Schneider. Like Beltran, Schneider never managed as game with his team.

Over the past three years, Scheider has been the catching coordinator for the Miami Marlins. While he may have experience in that role, he has not previously served as a quality control coach. His new duties will involve communication analytics from the front office to the coaching staff and players as well has having a hand in game preparation and strategy.

With Schneider being promoted to the Major League staff, there is now a vacancy for the Syracuse managerial position. The Syracuse bench coach, Rich Donnelly, is a longtime minor league coach, and he managed the Kingsport Mets in 2019.
