Bradenton 8, St. Lucie 5

Domingo Tapia was lit up for 7 runs in 1.1 innings in last night’s 8-5 loss to the Bradenton Marauders.  Tapia retired the first two batters in the first, but he allowed the next two runners to reach base and the following hitter, Dan Gamache, drove them in with a two run double. Tapia struggled immensely in the second inning where he walked three, hit a batter and surrendered five runs. Tapia’s record now falls to 2-8 and his ERA is now 5.00 for the season.

Despite jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, St. Lucie was down 8-2 at the start of the 6th inning. However, St. Lucie was to scratch out a few runs to make it interesting. St. Lucie scored a run in the 6th on a sac fly by short stop, Matt Reynolds. In the 7th, St. Lucie added two more runs on a RBI double by second baseman T.J Rivera and a RBI groundout by Catcher, Kevin Plawecki to make the score 8-5. T. J Rivera and Dustin Lawley reached base in the bottom of the 9th, which put Kevin Plawecki up as the tying run at the plate.  Unfortunately, Plawecki was called out on strikes to end the game.

St. Lucie’s record drops to 23-19 in the 2nd half, and they are 2.5 games behind first place in the south division. St. Lucie will look to rebound from last night’s loss tomorrow against Bradenton in game two of the series.
