The Scottsdale Scorpions broke their four game losing streak with a 4-1 win over the Salt River Rafters last night. They are now 3-6 and sitting in last place in the Arizona Fall League Eastern Division.
Mets relief prospect Corey Taylor worked around two ninth inning singles to pick up his first AFL save after having 20 during the regular season for the St. Lucie Mets. Taylor, 23, has pitched 5.2 innings in the AFL allowing only one run on four hits while striking out three and walking nobody.
Gavin Cecchini got his fourth start at shortstop (one at second base) and had a rough day in the field committing a throwing and fielding error. He now has three errors in the AFL after setting a career high with 33 for the Las Vegas 51s. At the plate, Cecchini went 0 for 3 with a walk and run scored. He’s slashing .267/.381/.400 in 15 at bats with three RBI and four runs scored.
Tim Tebow (2 for 20) was given the night off, along with Mets prospects Champ Stuart (3 for 13) and Matt Oberste (0 for 11). In case you missed it, Marcos Molina threw three scoreless innings on Wednesday night as he works his way back from TJS.
Welp……just another situation of us Mets fans playing GM and not getting what we wanted.
Cecchini, who for numerous reasons appears to have zero future with Mets at SS is in this league playing SS instead of 2B. Thats so Mets.
Possibly even worse that Goodwin is the manager so he can play him wherever he wants (to a degree) and still barely any 2B exposure. I think the Mets shop Cecchini this offseason.
I think with Cecchini and his offense he should become a guy like Ben Zobrist and play LF, 3B, 2B, and SS. I don’t know why so many Mets fans want to get rid of this guy. If he played SS all these years he is athletic enough to play all of these positions. I also don’t like giving up on guys who were drafted in the first round. The last two years he has been improving and controlling the strike zone. Only thing holding him back is his defense
I hear ya Glen but this team is managed by Terry Collins.
Hitters ages 25 and under usually need not apply.
It will be a cold day in hell before a Terry led team features a Cecchini on 25man over a Reyes, Wilmer, Soup, Rivera or even reynolds.
I don’t see too many people giving up on him. Maybe giving up on him at SS which at this point is tough to argue. Still has a ton of value and I think he will be a good MLB hitter. Right now I would have him focus solely on 2B.
