Left-handed reliever Tim Byrdak had this to say on his twitter account earlier this morning:

If he’s not going to Vegas to gamble, one would have to assume he’s reported to Triple-A with the 51s, following the trail that Pedro Feliciano blazed not too long before him.

For Byrdak, this is just another step closer to getting back to the big leagues following surgery a year ago. He had a torn capsule in his left shoulder repaired, and has been on the comeback trail with the Mets since he re-signed with the organization on a minor league deal.

In 15 appearances since coming back, Byrdak has spent most of his time in High-A with St. Lucie (14 appearances, one in GCL). The southpaw is 1-1 with a 2.03 ERA, three saves, eight walks, and 14 strikeouts in 13.1 innings pitched.

Prior to the non-waiver trade deadline, some rumors arose that teams in search of left-handed relief help were somewhat interested in the status of both Byrdak and Feliciano. Now that the deadline has passed, there is still the possibility of a waiver deal if the Mets make them available.

Feliciano was promoted over the weekend in response to Josh Edgin‘s injury and corresponding trip to the disabled list. After compiling a 1.29 ERA, 19 strikeouts, and four walks in 21 innings pitched between three minor league levels, Perpetual Pedro has appeared in two games for New York (1.1 innings pitched), and has gotten some big outs for the Amazins. It’s his first time pitching in the major leagues since 2010.
