After getting swept in their doubleheader yesterday, the 51s will turn to Wheeler to get them back on track. The top prospect is making his first start since being sidelined with a minor injury, costing him one start. The right-hander was in the middle of his most productive stretch of the season, with hist last appearance being his best. He went 7.1 innings (his longest of 2013) against Albuquerque, allowing two runs on six hits, one walk, and seven strikeouts. Wheeler will look to keep his perfect record intact during day games (2-0 record, 2.00 ERA).
Binghamton Mets @ New Britain Rock Cats, 6:35 pm EST
Erik Goeddel (3-2, 5.31 ERA) vs. Alex Meyer (2-1, 3.56 ERA)
Goeddel is taking the mound with hopes of winning his third straight decision. He took the no decision his last time out against Portland, throwing six innings and allowing three runs on six hits, one walk, and six strikeouts. After going three appearances without getting through five innings, Goeddel has pitched at least five in his last four starts. St. Lucie Mets @ Dunedin Blue Jays, 6:30pm EST
Noah Syndergaard (2-1, 2.62 ERA) vs. Jesse Hernandez (2-4, 2.86 ERA)
Fresh off of earning the first MMN Pitcher of the Week award, Syndergaard takes the mound tonight for St. Lucie. The right-hander is coming off his most dominant start in the Mets organization, despite not getting a decision against Brevard County. Syndergaard went 6.2 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits, no walks, and 10 strikeouts. Since allowing seven runs to Fort Myers on April 18th, he has gone on a tear, striking out 33 hitters and walking only six in his last five starts.
Charlseston RiverDogs @ Savannah Sand Gnats, 7:05pm EST
Evan Rutckyj (4-2, 5.03 ERA) vs. Rainy Lara (4-1, 1.17 ERA)
Lara is making his first start since being named SAL Pitcher of the Week for the second time in three weeks. Saying that he’s been dominating the SAL this season would be an understatement. He’s looking to win his fourth straight decision, and will try to throw at least seven innings for the fifth consecutive time. His most recent start was his best of 2013, as he threw eight shutout innings and allowed only two hits, one walk, and nine strikeouts.
Wow. If Montero was pitching today at AA, you could argue that today was the best organizational pitching day in Mets history, with their best pitchers at each level taking the hill.
You got that right! This is a big day of pitching on tap for the organization. Hopefully they’ll eventually pitch as one rotation.
