To join Luis Cessa in getting honored for his stellar play within the last week, Travis Taijeron has been named the Florida State League Player of the Week.

Taijeron and the St. Lucie Mets played six games, and the right-handed hitting outfielder recorded a base hit in each of them, including three multi-hit games. He hit .500 (8-for-16), including five runs scored, three doubles, four homers, and five RBIs.

The 24-year-old was drafted in the 18th round of the 2011 MLB first-year player draft out of California Polytechnic State University, and is experiencing his first full season in Advanced-A. In 48 games and 152 at-bats with St. Lucie in 2012, Taijeron hit .203/.304/.373 with seven homers and 21 RBIs.

In 52 games and 178 at-bats this season, he’s adjusted nicely, to the tune of a .303/.398/.562 line. He’s shown his power potential by slugging eight homers, 20 doubles, and collecting 26 RBIs.

Congratulations to Travis on this honor! It’s always fun to see one player grab an award like this each week, but I could get used to seeing a pitcher and position player nab one each on a weekly basis.
