On Wednesday, Mets prospect Nolan McLean pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings for the Brooklyn Cyclones and on Friday he homered in his first start of the season as a DH.

Luisangel Acuña continues his hitting streak as Syracuse wins again, while the remaining affiliates falter.

Triple-A

Worcester Red Sox (4-8) 2, Syracuse Mets (7-5) 4

BOX SCORE

The Mets offense responded to their early two-run deficit, scoring three runs in the bottom of the third on a Luisangel Acuña two-RBI single and a Mark Vientos fielder’s choice groundout. Rylan Bannon delivered another run-scoring performance with a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Luisangel Acuña has begun to show signs of heating up after his cold start to the Syracuse season. His two-hit day is his first multi-hit game of the season, tallying three straight games with a hit and six in the last seven games. He continues to show dominance on the basepaths, adding to his team-high stolen base count of five.

  • LHP Joey Lucchesi (W, 2-0): 6 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 4 K (60 of 92 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Shintaro Fujinami: 1 1/3 IP, 0 ER, 0 H 0 BB (11 of 17 pitches for strikes)
  • LHP Josh Walker (S, 1): 1 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, 3 K (16 of 19 pitches for strikes)

Joey Lucchesi showed his major league experience and poise in his six-inning performance. Lucchesi allowed two early runs on extra-base hits by Nick Sogard and Jamie Westbrook but quickly found his footing and delivered a quality start. The bullpen duo of Shintaro Fujinami and Josh Walker were lights out, not allowing a hit, walk, or run.

Double-A

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (2-3), Erie SeaWolves (3-2) PPD

The Rumble Ponies/Sea Wolves game was canceled for the second day in a row and will not be made up. The series will continue on Saturday, April 13th, with a doubleheader starting at 1:35 P.M.

High-A

Asheville Tourists (4-2) 7, Brooklyn Cyclones (1-5) 1

BOX SCORE

Brooklyn continues its slow start to the season on both sides of the ball. Two-way prospect Nolan McLean made his first High-A start in the DH role after throwing three innings earlier in the week. The Oklahoma State product brought in the Cyclones’ only run of the night on a solo blast in the seventh inning.

  • RHP Noah Hall (L, 0-2): 2/3 IP, 6 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 2 K (17 of 31 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Jeffrey Colon: 1 2/3 IP, ER, BB, 2 K (25 of 38 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Joey Lancellotti: 1 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 2 K (16 of 25 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Douglas Orellana: 4 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 BB, 6 K, (34 of 62 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Josh Hejka: 1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H BB, 2 K (11 of 18 pitches for strikes)

Noah Hall made his second start of the year and failed to make it out of the first inning, giving up a grand slam and two other extra-base hits, totaling six earned runs. Jeffery Colon would relieve Hall and give up a run of his own, putting the Tourists up 7-0 in only the third inning. The rest of the bullpen would stymie Asheville’s offense the rest of the way, allowing one hit after the third frame. Douglas Orellana gave another excellent outing, going four innings and striking out six, maintaining his 0.00 ERA for the season.

Low-A

St. Lucie Mets (2-5) 4, Jupiter Hammerheads (4-3) 5

BOX SCORE

Jesus Baez would open the scoring for PSL in the second inning with a two-RBI double. Donovan Antonio would add to that lead in the next inning after a fielder’s choice ground out, tallying the lead to 3-0. St. Lucie went 4-0 after Jupiter walked in Christopher Suero at the top of the seventh inning; however, they would let this game slip away. The Hammerheads lit up the Mets bullpen for six hits en route to a comeback victory, culminating in a ninth-inning walk-off triple by Mark Coley III.

  • RHP Saul Garcia: 2 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, BB, 4 K (17 of 24 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Layonel Ovalles: 3 IP, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, WP (25 of 42 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Wyatt Hudepohl: 1 2/3 IP, 2 ER, BB, 3 K, WP (32 of 47 pitches for strikes)
  • LHP Ryan Ammons: 1 1/3 IP, 2 R (1 ER), H,  BB, K, (9 of 18 pitches for strikes)
  • RHP Jimmy Loper (L, 0-1): 2/3 IP, ER, 2 H, 0 BB, 2 K (10 of 13 pitches for strikes)

Saul Garcia and Layonel Ovalles had solid showings, combining for five innings pitched, seven strikeouts, and no runs allowed. The rest of the bullpen would have a more challenging time, giving up the 4-0 Mets’ lead and ultimately allowing a walk-off victory for the Hammerheads.

Wyatt Hudepohl was shaky in his second professional outing, giving up two runs and throwing a wild pitch, kickstarting the Jupiter comeback.
