When Ty Kelly first joined the Mets organization back in 2016, the then 27 year old career minor leaguer would be assigned to the Las Vegas 51s.  He would make an immediate impression on the entire Mets organization.

In his first 35 games of the season, he could not make an out hitting .391/.478/.548 with 12 doubles, two homers, and 15 RBI. With the injuries at the Major League level, the organization could no longer overlook his bat, and Kelly would finally get called up to the majors.

Last year, he bounced around a bit playing in the Mets, Blue Jays, and Phillies organization.  After the season, he would once again find himself looking for a minor league deal, and once again, he would find himself with the Mets organization.

With Kelly once again starting the year with the Las Vegas 51s, the question is what could he possibly do to top what he did during his first stint in Vegas.  Well, the last two days are what.

Yesterday, Kelly was a single short of the cycle.  On the day, he was 4-5 with three runs, a double, triple, two homers, and three RBI.

Today, Kelly was 3-5 with three runs, two triples, a homer, and three RBI.

Between the two games, he’s 7-10 with six runs, a double, three triples, three homers, and six RBI.  With this run, Kelly is now all over the Pacific Coast League leader boards.

At the moment, Kelly is the league leader in slugging (1.200), triples (3), homers (4), and total bases (30).  He’s also in the top five in runs, hits, and OPS.  Basically, Kelly has been one of, if not the, best hitter in the Pacific Coast League in April.

Overall, Kelly has been even better during his second stint with the Las Vegas 51s.  If he continues hitting this way, he is going to pressure the Mets to call him up the majors the very second there is an opening on the Major League roster.
