Per the Baseball America Transactions log, the Mets have signed undrafted free agent Erik Kaiser.

Kaiser, a Vandy product, pitched in four games in 2020 before COVID-19 shut down his season. In his four contests, the 6’5″ RHP held his opponents scoreless over five frames. During his three years with Commodores, he permitted four runs in ten innings out of the bullpen.

In July, the to-be-senior announced he would enter the transfer portal in search of a better opportunity.

Vanderbilt’s Head Coach Tim Corbin had this to say about the newest Met:

“Erik has continued to improve his skills on the mound. He pitched in the Northwoods League this summer, which allowed him to get a significant amount of mound time. Erik is a very good athlete for his size and may be our best fielding pitcher. His movements down the mound and overall delivery are moving in a positive direction. He is very capable of having success for us.”

Kaiser is fairly new to the mound, having only made the transition during high school. With Waterloo High School, he shone, posting a 1.17 ERA with 87 strikeouts. His arsenal consists of a low-90s fastball and a curve.

Erik’s father, Steve, played in the minor-league with the San Francisco Giants, reaching as high as A-ball in 1989.
