One of the rarest feats in baseball is hitting two grand slams in one game.  In fact, it is something that has only been accomplished 13 times in Major League history.  That should put in perspective just how special a night Jhoan Urena just had for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

Urena went right to work in the top of the first hitting a grand slam off Hartford starter Frank Duncan.  With no one on base ahead of him in the third inning, Urena would have to settle for just a solo shot.

Interestingly, this wasn’t even Urena’s first two home run game of the season.  In fact, Urena just accomplished that feat on Friday.  As good as he was on Friday, he was even better today.

In the sixth inning, Hartford went to left-handed reliever Brian Moran. Despite falling down 0-2 in the count, Urena would hit his second grand slam in the game.  With this second grand slam, the switch hitting Urena would hit one from each side of the plate.  That is a feat which has only been accomplished once in Major League history (Bill Mueller).

Overall, Urena was 3-for-5 with three runs, three homers, and nine RBI. It was the first three home run game for Urena in his professional career, and it was the first three home run game by a Binghamton player since Daniel Murphy did it in 2008

The nine RBI in a game was not just a personal best for Urena, but it is now the single game record for Binghamton.

This is all part of a big August for Urena.  In the month, he is hitting .286/.378/.586 with three doubles, six homers, and 19 RBI.

Seeing his power display both tonight and on Friday, it will be interesting to see what the red hot Urena has in store next.
