Kingsport Mets catcher Juan Uriarte was ranked the 16th best prospect in the Appalachian League by Baseball America.  Uriarte was the only Mets prospect to appear in the Top 20.

Uriarte took a big step forward in 2017.  In 52 games, Uriarte hit .305/.372/.455 with 13 doubles, a triple, five homers, and 36 RBI.   Accordingly to Baseball America, he’s an all fields contact hitter that can get a bit pull happy.  When Uriarte does pull the ball, he does hit it for power with all five of his homers going to left field.

Defensively, Uriarte was graded by Baseball America as an average catcher with the ability to improve to become an above average back there.  While fielding percentage and caught stealing percentage are limited in scope when judging catcher defense, Uriarte put up good numbers in those respective areas with a .995 fielding percentage and 33% caught stealing rate.

Overall, Uriarte is a 20 year old catcher who is now a jack of all trades, master of none behind the plate.  As he ages, he can improve in both areas, especially defensively.  Certainly, he will be a prospect to look out for next season.
