With his win last night over the Bowie Baysox, where he produced 5.0 IP, 6 hits, 1 ER and 1 K, Binghamton Mets starting pitcher Logan Verrett improved his season record to 12-6, and moved into the top spot for wins among Eastern League pitchers this season.

Verrett currently leads the league in several key categories and has continued to show improvement throughout the season. Verrett has the second lowest WHIP among all Eastern League pitchers at 1.16. However, he has given up an alarming number of home runs at 20, enough to tie him for second most in the league.

The 23 year old former Baylor player has a decent repertoire of good pitches. He has an average fastball that clocks in the low 90’s, a decent slider, with average movement and some impressive late bite, and a decent change up that has both fade and sink. He displays impressive control and command over his pitches, throwing all three for strikes. I think Verrett has a good amount of potential. He may not have the goods to be the ace of a team, but he may have what it takes to be a solid back of the rotation contributor. But while he may have put up impressive numbers with his solid skill set, I don’t think that the number of home runs he allows can be looked past.

The 6-2, 180 pound righty was also the pitcher last week who, with his 11th win, helped lead the B-Mets to their third-ever division title, the first in the last 13 years.
