It was just a formality after they clinched their first playoff berth in the Eastern League since 2004, but everyone was still anxiously waiting for the B-Mets to clinch the EL Eastern Division crown. They were able to do so on August 22nd with a 5-3 victory over the Bowie Baysox.

Not enough can be said about the performance of this squad and how they’ve truly come together as a team. They started the year with Rafael Montero leading the pitching staff, while Cesar Puello and Cory Vaughn were having solid starts to the season in the outfield.

Despite losing players to promotions, suspensions, and injuries, they’ve been able to maintain their high level of play; they currently stand at 81-50 on the season, and it’s because of a total team effort for the Double-A affiliate of the Mets. Daniel Muno‘s 80 runs scored are tops in the league, Darrell Ceciliani‘s 29 stolen are second-best, and Allan Dykstra‘s 79 RBIs are third-highest.

On the pitcher’s mound, Logan Verrett‘s 11 wins are tied for first, his 1.15 WHIP ranks second, and the 35 saves from Jeff Walters are far and away the best in the league.

There are plenty of other ballplayers who have had a positive contribution to the first regular season title for the B-Mets since 2000, and I could basically list the entire roster. Here is a video of the highlights of Binghamton’s victory over Bowie this week to officially make them EL Eastern Division champions. Congratulations from Mets Minors, and we’re looking forward to some playoff baseball!!!
