Yesterday’s series finale against the Detroit Tigers wasn’t pretty for the Mets in Flushing. New York lost the game, 11-3, and the Tigers left town with a three-game sweep under their belts. However, the one bright spot of the afternoon was a swing that Travis d’Arnaud took in the bottom of the fourth inning off Rick Porcello. He laced a ball into the Party City Deck in left-center field for a two-run homer, the first of his big league career.
The top catching prospect got a nice hand from the crowd as he rounded the bases, and also received a wonderful reception from his teammates in the dugout. The crowd was so jacked up about his homer that they kept cheering until the rookie came out for a curtain call. At the time, it was an important home run, as it gave the Mets a 3-2 lead. However, we all know what happened the rest of the game.
D’Arnaud just put such a sweet swing on the pitch, and I love watching him at the plate. Hopefully we’ll be seeing plenty of swings like this for years to come…
