The big four Top 100 Prospect lists (Baseball Prospectus does 101) are now out with the Mets having a solid showing despite graduations from Noah Syndergaard and Michael Conforto and the trade of Michael Fulmer. On two of the lists (MLB.com, Keith Law) the Mets had four players and the other two (Baseball America, BP) they had three.

Here is a breakdown of how each player fared:

  • Steven Matz – Peaked on Baseball Prospectus at #9. Jumped from #33 in last season’s rankings to #13 this year on Baseball America. Was #15 on MLB.com and was their third ranked left-handed pitcher. Keith Law remained the low guy on Matz at #37.
  • Dominic Smith – Highest ranking came from Law at #29. Was #51 on MLB, #79 on BA, and his worst ranking was from BP at #86.
  • Amed Rosario – Another Met receiving his highest ranking from Law at #42. Took a huge jump on BA from #98 up to #58. Was on MLB.com’s list for the first time at #79 while actually falling from #78 to #98 according to BP.
  • Gavin Cecchini – Made only two of the Top 100’s with his best coming on MLB.com’s at #87 and Law ranked him #89.
  • Brandon Nimmo – Failed to make any of the Top 100 lists just one year after making all of them prior to the 2015 season. His best ranking before his disappointing 2015 campaign came from BA at #45.

Most feel that the Mets still have a middle of the pack minor league system, Law has them at #16 and BA ranked them #15 after being #4 prior to 2015.

Matz is going to lose his eligibility with only 14.1 more major league innings pitched but I see Smith, Cecchini, and Rosario ascending up prospect lists. The Mets also have some good breakout candidates that I could see forcing their way into the top 100 in Wuilmer Becerra, Luis Carpio, and Desmond Lindsay.
