Who’s Hot / Who’s Not – Lower Minors: Fulmer Has A Strong Outing, McNeil Slumping In St. Lucie

Who’s Hot:

Michael Fulmer – St. Lucie.

Fulmer was the 44th overall pick in the 2011 June draft and a first round supplemental pick of the Mets. The 21 year old is coming off a strong outing against Bradenton on June 29th, where he went seven shutout innings in the victory, allowing just three hits, while walking two and striking out eight. On the season, Fulmer is 3-7 with a 4.43 ERA in 13 starts, pitching 63 innings while striking out 52 and a WHIP of 1.54.

Eudy Pina – St. Lucie

Pina continues his hot hitting and has raised his season average up to .259. He’s hit in seven of his last nine games with five multi-hit games in that span. During this latest stretch, he’s hit .455 (15 for 33) with 11 runs scored, five doubles, a triples, home run, nine RBI’s and has slugged .758.

Matthew Oberste – Savannah

Oberste was a 7th round selection in the 2013 draft. The big first baseman/DH out of Fort Smith, Arkansas has a five game hitting streak going through July 2nd, over which he’s been hitting .556 (10 for 18) with eight runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI, including a 4 for 4 outing with one home run and six RBI performance on June 29th followed by a 3 for 3 outing with a home run, two RBI and two walks on June 30th.

Champ Stuart – Savannah

The 6th round pick in the 2013 draft has been playing like his name lately, on a four game hitting streak through July 2nd and hitting safely in five of his last six games. Since June 27th, Stuart is hitting .500 (10 for 20) while scoring 13 runs, hitting two doubles, a triple, home run, five RBI, and five BB. Over this stretch, he has a .600 OBP, is slugging .850, and a 1.450 OPS.

Martires Arias – Kingsport

The 6’7” right handed reliever out of the Dominican Republic has been pitching in Kingsport since the 2012 season, and the 23 year old is performing, even if it is against generally much younger players. In three games out of the pen, Arias is 1-0 with a 0.84 ERA. In 10.2 innings, he’s allowed just five hits while walking two and striking out 13. Opponents are hitting just .143 against him.

Who’s Not:

John Lannan. – St. Lucie

Yes, the same John Lannan who was outrighted to the minors earlier this season. In two appearances in St. Lucie, he’s made two starts lasting just 3.2 innings while giving up seven hits, walking four, and allowing seven earned runs while striking out only two. His ERA is 17.18 with a WHIP of 3.00 and opponents are hitting .438 off of him.

Jeff McNeil – St Lucie

McNeil was hitting .332 down in Savannah, which earned him a promotion to St. Lucie, but he’s struggled at the plate since moving up one level. In 10 games at St. Lucie, he’s hitting just .152 with five hits in 33 plate appearances and no extra base hits.

Dimas Ponce – Brooklyn

The Panamanian infielder is in his 7th season in the Mets organization since first appearing in the Venezuelan Summer League Mets at the age of 17. In 13 games for the Cyclones, he’s hitting just .097 with three hits in 31 at bats.
