With a full week of games played by the Mets farm system it is time to take our first look of the season at who is off to a hot start and those who are struggling. Here is our position player edition:

Who’s Hot

David Thompson – Columbia Fireflies

The Mets 4th round pick from 2015 has a hit in each of his first seven games for the Fireflies to go along with eight RBI which is second in the South Atlantic League. He is hitting a cool .348/.464/.652 and has scored five runs. Maybe even more impressive is the outstanding defense he has played at third base this year.

Vinny Siena – Columbia Fireflies

Another Mets pick from the 2015 draft (14th RD) the second basemen has started the year off hitting .400/.536/.500 with a league leading seven walks. Siena is no stranger to fast starts, in 2015 he reached base safely in 22 of his first 23 pro games.

Matt Reynolds – Las Vegas 51s

It looked like for a good portion of the spring that he could find himself on the Opening Day 25-man roster but the quick recovery of Asdrubal Cabrera essentially eliminated those chances. Reynolds is already showing his versatility this year with three games at third and one each at second and short. He is hitting .353/.476/.529 with a stolen base and this homerun to right center field.

Tomas Nido – St. Lucie Mets

The recently turned 22-year old catcher has hit safely in all five of the games he has played this year, he has a .474/.524/.526 slash line in 19 at bats. He has knocked in two runs and struck out just once. His back-up Lednier Ricardo has made two starts and continued the offensive trend going 3 for 7 with three runs scored.

John Mora – St. Lucie Mets

Had his six game hitting streak snapped last night, nevertheless has reached base in all seven St. Lucie games. He has gone 9 for 26 (.346/.414/.423) with four RBI and five runs scored. The left-handed hitting outfielder is coming off a 2015 campaign in which he hit 22 doubles, 12 triples, and five homeruns.

Amed Rosario – St.  Lucie Mets

So far, so good for the Mets decision to have the young shortstop prospect start the year back in the Florida State League where he is still the third youngest player. He hit a walk-off homer on Opening Night and scored the only for St. Lucie in their Tuesday night victory. He is 10 for 32 (.313) with three steals and 15 total bases which ties him for 3rd in the league. Bad news is that he hasn’t walked yet and has struck out seven times.

Gavin Cecchini

Who’s Not

Dominic Smith – Binghamton Mets

It has been only four games for the Mets top first base prospect but the early results aren’t pleasing. He has gone 3 for 17 with five strikeouts and only one walk out of the cleanup spot for the B-Mets. He even had his first Double-A hit erased when he stretched it to a double but forgot to touch first base and was called out.

Wuilmer Becerra – St. Lucie Mets

The talented outfielder hasn’t started a game since April 9th and has only pinch ran since the 11th, only info is that it’s supposedly minor. Before the injury he struggled with the bat going 1 for 10 with two strikeouts to start his St. Lucie career.

Champ Stuart – St. Lucie Mets

Unfortunately this has become a trend with Champ who struck out 141 times in 97 games last season. He has already struck out 11 times this year and has only four hits in 29 at bats. The speedy outfielder has been still getting a chance as the St. Lucie leadoff hitter.

Ivan Wilson – Columbia Fireflies

Yet again, we have a talented outfielder who hasn’t quite figured it out with the bat in his pro career. Wilson has 4 for 25 (.160) with eight strikeouts and two caught stealing in six games this year. The good news is that he has looked great defensively in center field for Columbia.

Marc Krauss – Las Vegas 51s

The veteran has struck out seven times in only 16 at bats and has walked once. He is hitting .188/.235/.375 overall and another few weeks of this and he may be time to have Travis Taijeron learn some first base.

Gavin Cecchini – Las Vegas 51s

Off to a disappointing start for the 51s everyday shortstop he has gone 3 for 16 (.188) without an extra base hit or run scored. He has struck out three times and walked twice. Last year, for the B-Mets he hit .333/.404/.524 in 12 April games.
