Who’s Hot:

Akeel Morris SP/RP, Brooklyn: Akeel Morris, who one of the most intriguing arms in the low minors, dazzled in his first start of the season on Monday.  Morris fired five shutout innings against the Staten Island Yankees, and he struck out five.  After an extremely disappointing season in 2012, Morris has made a brilliant turnaround for Brooklyn in 2013. Morris’ ERA now stands at a microscopic 0.47 through 38 innings pitched.

Brandon Nimmo, OF Savannah: Brandon Nimmo has struggled to produce flashy numbers offensively so far in his professional career, but he is starting to heat up in recent weeks.  In the past week, he’s hitting .412 with 3RBI, 9 walks, and 2 doubles in 17 at bats.

Eric Campbell, OF Las Vegas: Eric Campbell’s hot hitting over the past week has helped vault Las Vegas into first place in the Southern division. Campbell is hitting .440 with 8RBI, 4 steals, and 6 walks over 25 at bats in the past week.  Campbell has been a solid producer for Las Vegas all season long as he’s owns a .295/.419/.455 slash line with 7 home runs and 54 RBI in 288 at bats.

 Who’s Not:

Rylan Sandoval: Since being demoted back to St. Lucie in late July, Sandoval has struggled immensely. Sandoval is hitting .136 since his demotion, and he is hitting .087 with no walks, no RBI and 7 strikeouts in the past week.   Sandoval hit over .300 with 4 home runs in 102 at bats with AAA Las Vegas, yet he’s only hitting .241 with one home run 187 at bats for St. Lucie.

Jayce Boyd, 1B St. Lucie: Jacye Boyd was one of Savannah’s best producers in the first half of the season, and he immediately jolted St. Lucie’s lineup once he got the call up. However, Boyd is ice cold at the moment.  He’s hitting only .222 in the past week with no extra base hits or RBI and just two walks in 18 at bats.

Matthew Bowman: Bowman is having a fantastic season overall, but he’s starting to struggle recently.  Bowman yielded five runs and seven hits in 4.2 innings in Thursday’s 5-3 loss against the Fort Meyers Miracle.  In his last three starts, Bowman is 0-2 and his ERA stands at 7.61.
