Despite losing their lead against the Altoona Curve in the late innings last night, Darin Gorski put together a nice outing for the B-Mets, as John Bernhardt talked about earlier today.

Also, Wilfredo Tovar continued his hot hitting with a 2-for-4 night against Curve pitchers, including a stolen base and a run scored. That solid night at the plate extended his current hitting streak to four games in a row, and he’s hit safely in nine of his last ten games. On July 30th, Tovar laced a triple to right center field, which you can see below:

Despite a very slow start to the season (.205/.250/.253 in 83 April at-bats), Tovar has gotten progressively better with each month. His best month of the season just happened in July, where he hit .318/.371/.477 with 10 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He’s hitting .367 in his last ten games, and has watched his season triple slash climb up to a more respectable .263/.321/.332 with two home runs, 12 doubles, three triples, 27 RBIs, and 52 runs scored for Binghamton.

With the lack of depth within the upper minors of the organization at shortstop, Tovar’s improved performance is a welcome sight, but his bat is still a big question mark moving forward. He’s actually on the MLB 40-man roster, and there is no doubt his future roster status is up in the air with the new crop of minor leaguers that must be protected before the Rule V draft.
