In the Mexican Winter League playoffs on Thursday night the Aguilas de Mexicali beat the Naranjeros de Hermosillo 16-6 behind the bat of Xorge Carrillo. The Mets farmhand went 3 for 4 with a double, walk, run scored and knocked in a game high four runs.
The Aguilas now take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven semifinal playoff series. Carrillo is hitting .323 in eight playoff games. Carrillo hit .286/.374/.407 with 11 doubles, three home runs and 26 RBI in 60 regular season games in Mexico.
The 27-year old catcher was invited to Major League camp with the Mets earlier this week.
he looks useful with the bat
can he throw runners out?
can he call a good game?
He has had solid numbers the last three or four years. is he blocked by Plawecki or just not good enough to get to AAA?
He’s seen little time at AAA and will probably again this year, but being behind Plawecki like you said doesn’t help.
