Arizona Fall League (AFL)

Peoria Javelinas 7 – 2 Surprise Saguaros
Salt River Rafters 6 – 1 Mesa Solar Sox
Scottsdale Scorpions 2 – 1 Glendale Desert Dogs

This was a pretty quiet game for most of the night as the two sides traded zeros for the first five and half innings. The Scorpions would finally break through in the bottom half of the inning thanks to an RBI single from center fielder Taylor Trammell to give the team a 1-0 lead. This score would hold until the top of the eighth inning when Mets right hander Gerson Bautista was brought in to hold the lead. Instead, he made a mess of things allowing a lead-off single followed by a walk and a sacrifice bunt to put runners on second and third with only one out. That would the only three batters he would face as Bautista was pulled out of the game in favor of lefty Ty Boyles in order to get the lefty vs lefty match-up against Glendale right fielder Connor Marabell. Boyles got Marabell to fly out but it was deep enough to score a run, tying the game at 1-1. Boyles would finish the inning without further damage.

This game would go to extra innings, thus, putting the inning starting runner on second rule into a effect. In the bottom of the eleventh inning, the Scorpions chose to have Andres Gimenez pinch run for the slow footed catcher Matt Winn. The move immediately paid dividends as Gimenez was able to tag up and advance to third base on a fly ball out to right field. The Desert Dogs would intentionally walk the next batter, C.J. Hinojosa, to try and set up the double play in order to get out of the inning but on the very next pitch Hinojosa would swipe second base to ruin that idea. With Alonso looming on deck the Desert Dogs had to continue to pitch to Austin Listi but Desert Dog lefty Tyler Erwin tried to be too fine with his command and just couldn’t catch the corners which led to a walk.

Now with the bases loaded and only one out, Peter Alonso came to the plate with the platoon advantage, having a career .336 AVG, 1.070 OPS with 51 extra base hits vs left handed pitching in his career. Alonso never got the chance to swing though as he took a couple of close pitches down in the zone for a four pitch game winning RBI walk to win it for the Scorpions 2-1. The team improved to (4-3) on the season and into a three way tie for first place in East Division. Meanwhile the Desert Dogs dropped their seventh straight game to open the season at (0-7).

Mexican Pacific League (LMP)

Charros de Jalisco 8 – 5 Naranjeros de Hermosillo
Venados de Mazatlan 5 – 1 Yaquis de Obregon
Aguilas de Mexicali 5 – 2 Mayos de Navojoa
Tomateros de Culiacan 10 – 0 Caneros de los Mochis

With a 9-0 lead built by the time the fourth inning was over, this game was well out of reach early for the Mochis. In response, the club took its aging catcher. Genaro Andrade, 33, out of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning and gave Mets prospect Juan Uriarte some rare playing time. Uriarte would receive two plate appearances drawing a HBP in the top of the 7th inning and flying out to right field to end the game.

Venezuelan Winter League (LVBP)

Bravos de Margarita 5 – 0 Tiburones de La Guaira
Caribes de Anzoategui 6 – 1 Leones del Caracas
Tigres de Aragua 8 – 3 Aguilas del Zulia
Navegantes del Magallanes 6 – 4 Cardenales de Lara [13 innings]

The Navegantes broke out for fifteen hits in this game but Becerra was left out of the action in this one as he went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position, leaving a team high six runners on base in total. He also committed an error via a missed catch in the second inning that led to run scoring. Becerra’s lone hit came in the top of the eight inning with two outs in the inning as ripped a line drive to center field for a single.

Dominican Winter League (LIDOM)
