Arizona Fall League (AFL)

Mesa Solar Sox 18 – 2 Surprise Saguaros
Salt River Rafters 2 – 1 Glendale Desert Dogs
Scottsdale Scorpions 8 – 0 Peoria Javelinas

The Scorpions jumped all over Peoria starter Jeremy Walker in the second inning of this one scoring six runs to put this game out of reach early. Walker’s nightmare inning started with three straight singles off the bats of Austin Listi, Ronnie Dawson, and Desmond Lindsay to lead-off the inning. Mark Kolozsvary would drive the first run in via a fielder’s choice ground out followed by an RBI single by Alfredo Rodriguez and a RBI sacrifice fly by Arquimedes Gamboa to give the Scorpions a 3-0 lead. Even with two outs in the inning, the Scorpions would continue the onslaught drawing a walk and a HBP to re-load the bases for Darick Hall. After a run scoring wild pitch, Hall would lace a ball up the middle to finish clearing the bases and give the Scorpions the 6-0 lead they finished the inning with.

This score would hold all the way to the top of the eighth inning thanks to solid scoreless pitching performances by J.B. Bukauskas (4 IP), Trent Thornton (1.1 IP), and Mets right hander Stephen Nogosek (1.2 IP). In the eighth, Andres Gimenez would make a pinch hit appearance and drew his third walk of the season to lead-off the inning. A few batters later he would score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Darick Hall, his third RBI of the game.

The Scorpions would score one final run in the top of the ninth when Lindsay, who drew a full count walk, would come around to score on a Gimenez RBI double to finish the scoring at 8-0 for the win. With the win, the Scorpions improved to (5-3) remaining in a three way tie for first place in the AFL East.

Mexican Pacific League (LMP)

Caneros de los Mochis 6 – 5 Tomateros de Culiacan
Yaquis de Obregon 8 – 3 Venados de Mazatlan
Aguilas de Mexicali 2 – 1 Mayos de Navojoa
Charros de Jalisco 5 – 3 Naranjeros de Hermosillo

Not sure how I missed this during the pre-season (and the first week of games), but after playing in twenty-five games for the club last season, Bryce Brentz is once again playing for the Naranjeros and has committed to playing for at least the first half of the season.

Venezuelan Winter League (LVBP)

Bravos de Margarita 3 – 1 Tiburones de La Guaira
Leones del Caracas 6 – 5 Tigres de Aragua
Cardenales de Lara 9 – 2 Caribes de Anzoategui
Navegantes del Magallanes 7 – 6 Aguilas del Zulia

With the game tied at 6-6, Becerra came into the game as a defensive replacement in the bottom of the eighth inning and failed to execute a sacrifice bunt in the top of the ninth inning as he bunted into a fielder’s choice force out at second. He would come around to score later in the inning though as back to back singles by Luis Arraez and Delmon Young drove him in for the tie breaking run.

Dominican Winter League (LIDOM)

Aguilas Cibaenas 2 – 1 Tigres del Licey
Gigantes del Cibao 7 – 0 Leones del Escogido

Terdoslavich was involved in both run scoring rallies for the Gigantes in this game. In the bottom of the second inning, with the team already up 3-0, the switch hitting Terdoslavich pulled a line drive into right field to drive in a run and extend the lead to 4-0. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Terdoslavich would come up to bat with the bases loaded and two outs and flared one into center field to drive in two runs and extend the lead to 6-0. With tonight’s three RBI, Terdoslavich now leads the LIDOM with six RBI on the season.

Estrellas de Oriente 6 – 5 Toros del Este

Not a good day for Mets players in this one as both Smith and Peterson struggled in this one. Smith walked and scored a run in the first inning, but found himself chasing a fastball above his shoulders for a strike out in the third, hitting a soft fly ball to right in the, and chasing a fifty-eight foot fastball in the dirt for a strike out in the seventh inning. The 0-fer dropped his stat line to a very troubling .167 AVG/.439 OPS to start the season.

The DR Sports on Demand live feed cut out before Peterson could take the mound, but according to reports, he was struggling with his fastball command and catching too much of the plate in this one. A lead-off single followed by a sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch got Peterson into trouble with only one out in the bottom of the ninth. The next batter, former Cubs outfielder Junior Lake, would drive the runner in with an RBI single to blow the save opportunity for Peterson and tie the game at 5-5. He would proceed to steal second later in the inning and then scored the game winning run on an RBI single by Yadiel Hernandez to win the game for the Estrelles. The hits and the runs surrendered by Peterson were the first ones of the LIDOM season for him.

Roberto Clemente Puerto Rico League (LBPRC)
