Special addition to the winter league watch for the next week will be the MLB All-Stars in the Japan All-Star Series. The first game took place at 4:00 a.m. this morning, with the MLB squad beating the Yomiuri Giants, 9-6.

Amed Rosario batted eighth and played the entire game at shortstop. He went 1-for-4 at the plate with a two-run single that scored J.T. Realmuto and Eugenio Suarez. Realmuto went 2-for-4 with a homer. Juan Soto and Yadier Molina each had two hits as well.

The game will re-air tonight at 8 p.m. ET on MLB Network and the next game for the MLB All-Stars is Friday morning at 4:30 a.m. ET.

Arizona Fall League (AFL)

Mesa Solar Sox 6 – 4 Glendale Desert Dogs
Peoria Javelinas 8 – 7 Salt River Rafters
Surprise Saguaros 5 – 4 Scottsdale Scorpions

The Scorpions were once again dominated by another top pitching prospect last night; this time by Blue Jays right-hander Nate Pearson. You may remember Pearson from Saturday’s Arizona Fall League All-Star Game as the pitcher who delivered a 104 mph (on a hot radar gun) to Peter Alonso that was launched over the fence for a home run. Clocking in at a more “reasonable” 97 – 99 mph, Pearson got his revenge today by striking out Alonso once and getting him to pop-out in his two at-bats against him. The rest of the Scorpions team did not fair any better as Pearson tossed four innings of perfection netting five strikeouts along the way.

The Scorpions actually had themselves a 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth, but, the Saguaros rallied against Reds right-hander Alex Powers. After a lead-off walk, Powers allowed back to back home runs to Andy Young and Will Craig to tie the game up at 4-4. After a strikeout, Powers would allow a triple and a base hit end the game and suffer the loss.

The only bright spot in the game for the Mets players belonged to catcher Ali Sanchez who showed off his defensive skills behind the plate. According to Baseball America’s Kyle Glaser who was at the game, “Every throw [was] right on the money. SS barely had to move his glove. [His] accuracy is pristine. Very [quick release time]”

With the loss, the Scorpions fall to 10-13-1 on the season with an elimination number of only two with six games remaining.
