Arizona Fall League (AFL)

Mesa Solar Sox 4 – 2 Surprise Saguaros
Glendale Desert Dogs 12 – 6 Salt River Rafters
Peoria Javelinas 6 – 0 Scottsdale Scorpions

The entire Scottsdale Scorpions team continues to struggle offensively suffering their third shutout loss in the last four games. Today they were held to only five hits totals including one from Ali Sanchez in the top of the third inning.

On the pitching side, Matt Blackham was the only Mets reliever today tossing two innings of work allowing one unearned run due to an error. While Blackham’s control issues continue to be a concern, as he only tossed 25 of his 43 pitches for strikes (58%), the three strikeouts generated were a season best for him.

Mexican Pacific League (LMP)

Charros de Jalisco 11 – 2 Mayos de Navojoa
Yaquis de Obregon 8 – 3 Caneros de Los Mochis
Venados de Mazatlan 6 – 3 Tomateros de Culiacan
Naranjeros de Hermosillo 4 – 0 Aguilas de Mexicali

Venezuelan Winter League (LVBP)

Caribes de Anzoategui 10 – 2 Tigres de Aragua
Cardenales de Lara 1 – 0 Aguilas de Zulia
Navegantes del Magallanes 18 – 2 Bravos de Margarita

Becerra may still be feeling the effects of the flu as he has failed to get a base hit in any of his last ten at-bats with five strikeouts.

Dominican Winter League (LIDOM)

Toros del Este 9 – 3 Tigres del Licey
Leones del Escogido 6 – 1 Aguilas Cibaenas
Gigantes del Cibao 5 – 1 Estrellas de Oriente

This was a rare opportunity for Urena getting only his second start in the field this season after riding the pine for sixteen straight days. Urena’s hit was part of a two-run bottom of the second inning that gave the Gigantes the lead. With a runner on first and two out, Urena hit a grounder up the middle that split the middle infielder. He would come around and score one batter later on a triple by Reds minor leaguer Jose Siri.

Roberto Clemente Puerto Rico League (LBPRC)

No Games Scheduled. The season will begin Nov. 15, 2018

With pre-season camps opening up today, the LBPRC First Year Player Draft was conducted and two Mets players were selected. Second Baseman Carlos Cortes was the first round selection for the Criollos de Caguas, last year’s league champions and Caribbean World Series champions. Cortes was the Mets third round pick from the 2018 MLB Draft a few months ago and posted decent numbers (.264 AVG/.720 OPS) in his first minor league season with the Brooklyn Cyclones.

The other player selected, right handed pitcher Saul Gonzalez, was taken in the sixth round by the Cangrejeros de Santurce. Gonzalez is also from this year’s MLB draft as he was taken by the Mets in the twenty-third round pick earlier this year. He only appeared in three games for the GCL Mets due to his already heavy high school workload. Despite being drafted out of Montverde Academy in Kissimmee, Florida, Gonzalez was actually born in Cidra, Puerto Rico which is about one hour south of his new Puerto Rican team.

While both players were drafted, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they will be playing for the clubs. This just means that IF they choose to participate in the LBPRC, these are the teams that would control their rights.
