Caneros de Los Mochis 8 – 6 Yaquis de Obregon

Aguilas de Mexicali 8 – 3 Naranjeros de Hermosillo

  • RHP Scott Copeland: 3.0 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 1 HR allowed, Loss(0-1)

Copeland’s first start with for the Naranjeros started out well as he got through the first inning with ease generating one strikeout and two groundouts after allowing a lead-off single.

Things were looking fine in the second inning too, but with two outs and a man on first base, the Aguilas started rallying. A single by former Met, Xorge Carrillo followed by a three run blast by Ricardo Serrano gave the Aguilas a sudden 3-0 lead. Another run would score later in the inning after a HBP, a stolen base, and an error by the Naranjeros second baseman.

Copeland would throw a scoreless third inning with two strikeouts and a groundout, but the Aguilas would get to him again in the fourth inning. Copeland night would end after he issued a lead-off walk to former Met Nick Evans and another base hit to Xorge Carrillo. Right handed reliever Jaron Long would come in to try and limit the damage but he allowed both inherited runners to score adding two more earned runs to Copeland’s register.

The Aguilas would go on to win the game – and Copeland would end up taking the loss.

Venezuelan Winter League (LVBP)

Tiburones de La Guaira 5 – 4 Cardenales de Lara
Navegantes del Magallanes 7 – 5 Bravos de Margarita
Leones del Caracas 9 – 0 Tigres de Aragua

With the Leones up 8-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Luis Carpio came into the game as a defensive replacement for shortstop Wilfredo Tovar. He would get his first AB of the season in the top of the eighth inning but was called out on strikes after a seven pitch AB.

Aguilas del Zulia 6 – 4 Caribes de Anzoategui

Making his first start since August 25th with the Columbia Fireflies, Campos only lasted two innings and took the loss for the Caribes. Campos night started out well as he generated three ground ball outs in the first inning while throwing eight of his eleven pitches for strikes.

Things fell apart for him in the second inning after he allowed a lead-off four pitch walk to Hector Gimenez. The next batter, Jose Tabata, would single to left field followed by an RBI double by Herlis Rodriguez to give the Aguilas a 1-0 lead. With runners on second and third, Campos’ defense would help him out by taking a ground ball, off the bat of Luis Alvarez, and throwing out Tabata out at home on a fielder’s choice. Two more runs would score though via an RBI double and an RBI fielder’s choice to put the Aguilas ahead 3-0 and ending the night for Campos.

Dominican Winter League (LIDOM)

Estrellas Orientales 6 – 2 Aguilas Cibaenas [Completed in 7th inning due to Rain]
Leones del Escogido 0 – 0 Tigres del Licey [Suspended in 6th inning due to Rain]
Gigantes del Cibao 9 – 8 Toros del Este

All three Mets players played parts in big rallies for both of their teams in this one. In the bottom of the first inning, after a lead-off walk and a single put runners on first and second, Jhoan Urena hit a soft flair to left field that dropped in for a single to load the bases for Joey Terdoslavich. He would respond with a hard hit line drive RBI single to right field to give the Gigantes an early 1-0 lead.

Fast forward to the top of the sixth inning with the Gigantes now up 3-1, a lead-off triple by Carlos Franco and an RBI single by Sean Murphy would cut the lead to 3-2 and bring Dom Smith to the plate with a chance to keep the rally going. He did so with a sharp line drive down the right field line for a double but did not get the RBI with the slow footed Murphy running. After a game tying RBI ground out by Alexi Casilla brought in a run and moved Smith over to third base, he would score on a wild pitch to give the Toros a 4-3 lead.

The Toros would end up scoring seven total runs in the inning but would give six of them back over the next three innings to lose the game 9-8.
