Adam Rubin of ESPN NY writes that the Mets have improved the farm system in the four years under Sandy Alderson to the point where ESPN’s Keith Law ranks the organization sixth in the majors.

Rubin shares that however the prospects arrived to the Mets, things are starting to look brighter, especially on the pitching side.

Coming into camp the Mets have at least eight pitching prospects that can make their major league debut in 2014.  The leaders of the pack of course are Noah Syndergaard and possibly Rafael Montero.  But Rubin also writes that Jacob deGrom, Erik Goeddel, Cory Mazzoni and Logan Verrett also have shots to open in the Las Vegas rotation and could debut later this summer.

One of the guys that I would like to see in the Mets bullpen is Jeff Walters.  After his record setting season in Binghamton (AA) where he recorded 38 saves, it may be a good idea to just add him to the bullpen and let him be one of the guys to bridge the gap from the starters to the closer.

Rubin also writes that, Jack Leathersich, who has 241 strikeouts in 143 professional innings may be a candidate to join Scott Rice as the southpaws in the Opening Day bullpen. And with position players, he feels that Cesar Puello could be a position player to watch, and will most likely start the season in Triple A.

There is much to be excited about this season and it isn’t just about who will make their major league debut in 2014, but how advanced the organization will be in the next few years.  What Alderson has done is not only bring in talented players, but their development will eventually propel the Mets to have the best farm system in all of baseball.  Now that should equal into winning ways up and down the whole organization. The patient Mets fans can only hope.
