Betsy Helfand of the Las Vegas Review Journal reported that the X-ray on the foot of Gavin Cecchini was negative and he is considered day-to-day with a bruise.

The infield prospect is not in the Las Vegas 51s’ starting lineup tonight.

On Wednesday night, Cecchini was hit by a pitch on his instep and had to be helped off the field in the eighth inning of the 51s’ 14-4 loss.

The 24-year-old Cecchini is hitting .294/.342/.468 with 11 doubles, triple and two home runs this season for Vegas.

After the New York Mets game on Wednesday afternoon manager Mickey Callaway said he expected the team would be promoting a position player for the series in Philadelphia with Jay Bruce heading on Paternity Leaving.

One of their options, Gavin Cecchini, was hit by a pitch on his instep last night in Vegas and had to be helped off the field. He is expected to get an x-ray today.

Cecchini, 24, was hitting only .184 over his last 10 games that dropped his slash line down to .294/.342/.468 with 11 doubles, triple, two home runs and seven walks compared to 15 strikeouts in 109 at-bats for the Triple-A Las Vegas 51s.

The now mostly second baseman made a few adjustments in his stance this offseason that has helped him hit for power more this season. It’s also helped him have a bounce back season after a miserable 2017 in which he had a .529 OPS in the majors and .709 in the minors.

Cecchini has played 18 games at second base, 11 at shortstop and one at third base this year.

Ty Kelly and Phillip Evans, both options to get promoted as well to the Mets, played in the Vegas loss last night which featured their normal lineup. Cecchini and Evans are on the 40-man roster while Kelly is not.

The 51s have recently lost outfielder Bryce Brentz to a broken toe and third baseman David Thompson to a hairline fracture in his left hand.
