The Mets 2009 international signee Gabriel Ynoa continues to excel with the Low-A Savannah Sand Gnats dominating in most of his performances and compiling a 14-4 record in 21 starts this season.

With his win Tuesday over the Kannapolis Intimidators, Gabriel Ynoa increased his season win total to 14, the highest out of any pitcher in the South Atlantic League. He is having a career season, racking up 9 more wins than any previous year in professional ball. He has not lost a game since July 17th, and with his latest win Ynoa is one victory shy of Jason Scobie’s 2005 record of 15 wins by a Mets farmhand.  He has also thrown one complete game, the second of his professional career and first since 2010.

Ynoa has seen steady improvement since making his move into professional ball. This season, over 21 starts and 129.2 innings pitched (third in the league) his 2.71 ERA ranks third among all SAL pitchers and his 1.01 WHIP ranks second.

Ynoa has racked up a career high 105 strikeouts this season, an average number considering the amount of playing time he has seen so far, and the 15th most in the league. Although, his K/9 of 7.3 is the second highest of his career.

The 20-year-old Dominican still has work to do, but through continued efficient use of his fastball, slider and change up he has the potential of eventually working himself into the big leagues. If he continues improving and working on his physicality and command, he could turn into a valuable back of the rotation asset in a few years.
