Savannah starter Gabriel Ynoa scattered six hits and just one run over eight innings, leading the Sand Gnats to a 4-1 victory over the Greenville Drive on Monday afternoon. Ynoa struck out six and walked none while improving his record to 6-2.

The Gnats (29-20) backed Ynoa with two home runs and four doubles among their nine hits in the game. Stefan Sabol hit his third homer to open the scoring in the second inning. Eudy Pina, who had three hits, hit his fourth home run of the season to lead off the seventh inning.

Savannah manufactured runs in the third and sixth innings. In the third, Yucary De La Cruz smacked a one-out double and scored when Pina followed with a double to give the Gnats a 2-0 advantage.

Greenville (14-36) cut the lead in half in the fifth, when Boss Moanaroa singled, went to third on Jayson Hernandez’s single and scored on a groundout.

Savannah answered in the top of the sixth. Jeff Glenn singled and advanced to third on Jeff Reynolds’ double. Glenn scored on Phillip Evans’ sacrifice fly to make it 3-1. Pina’s blast in the seventh made it 4-1.

Ynoa, who sailed through the first four innings allowing just one hit, gave up hits in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings. But Beck Wheeler came in in the ninth and retired the final three Greenville batters for his fifth save.

The two teams continue their three game series today at 7:05.
