Jacob Reimer was one of three high school players that the Mets drafted in the first four rounds of the 2022 MLB Draft, joining Jett Williams and Nick Morabito as young prospects the organization hoped would reshape their farm system. Reimer has not seen the meteoric rise through the system that Williams has, but he is making great progress given his age.
During his first full professional season, Reimer made his way through three leagues ending his year in High-A Brooklyn, posting respectable numbers including a .399 OBP. Reimer shows a strong eye, walking 62 times in his age-19 season. He did his best hitting during his stint with St. Lucie, posting an .804 OPS in 75 games. He predominantly played at third base, but he also saw some time at first.
Reimer has yet to develop much power, recording just 21 extra-base hits in 102 games last season. Reimer also needs to continue to refine his defensive game – which is easier to hide at first base, although he probably still projects as a third baseman long-term.
2024 OUTLOOK
Reimer will be entering his age-20 season hoping to preserve his penchant for getting on base while improving his run-producing capabilities. He will likely start the year at High-A, where he will still be on the younger players on the roster.
Unfortunately, Reimer sustained a hamstring injury and was placed on the 60-day injured list on April 2. He’ll be out of action for a while, but if he comes back and has another strong season at the plate, he has a real chance of earning a promotion to Double-A before the year ends. There is some real optimism about how Reimer is progressing, and hopefully, he returns from injury and produces.
