Salt Lake Bees @ Las Vegas 51s, 10:05pm EST
TBD vs. Chris Schwinden (2-4, 5.73 ERA)
Schwinden’s streak of going at least five innings in a start ended at five in his last appearance against Omaha. The right-hander went four innings, allowing two runs on three hits, one walk, and five strikeouts. While the length wasn’t there, the three hits allowed were the lowest since April 28th against Tacoma, when he also allowed three knocks. Following a rough stretch from the middle to the end of April where Schwinden walked 12 hitters in 14 innings (three starts), he’s settled back down, allowing four free passes over his last 20.1 innings pitched (four starts).
Portland Sea Dogs @ Binghamton Mets, 7:05pm EST
Drake Britton (3-4, 4.79 ERA) vs. Logan Verrett (6-1, 3.28 ERA)
Verrett is set to make his tenth start for the B-Mets this year, and will be adding to his team-leading 60.2 innings pitched. The southpaws six victories are also the best on the squad. He won his second straight decision in beating New Britain on May 20th, lasting six innings and allowing three runs on nine hits, no walks, and 10 strikeouts. It was the second time he hasn’t allowed a walk in a start, and the 10 whiffs are a season-high. Verrett’s team-leading 60.2 innings pitched can be attributed to his consistency. He’s thrown at least six innings in eight of his nine starts. The one time he didn’t? He threw five innings.
Bradenton Marauders @ St. Lucie Mets, 6:30pm EST
Eliecer Navarro (0-8, 3.78 ERA) vs. Angel Cuan (4-1, 4.50 ERA)
Cuan is looking to win his second straight decision as he takes the mound tonight against Bradenton. He enjoyed his most dominant start his last time out. The southpaw went seven shutout innings, allowing three hits, one walk, and six strikeouts. I don’t normally mention anything about the opposing pitchers here, but take a look at that record and ERA of Navarro. Talk about bad luck! While I wish him the best, I don’t want him to crack into the win column tonight.
Augusta GreenJackets @ Savannah Sand Gnats, 6:05pm EST
Martin Agosta (5-1, 2.88 ERA) vs. Jake Kuebler (0-2, 3.32 ERA)
In his first year of pitching in professional baseball, Kuebler has been showing what kind of arm he has, and the potential there could be in the future. The Gnats will run him out to the mound for his ninth appearance of the season, but it will be his first start. He’s shown he can provide some length out of the bullpen, only throwing less than two innings once in 2013 (1.2 IP on 5/6). We’ll see how deep he’ll be going in tonight’s ballgame, and if he can continue the current 6:1 K/BB ratio he’s compiled as a reliever.
