An MRI in New York revealed no damage on the left shoulder of Jonathon Niese, a source told Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.

The anonymous source said that Niese should resume throwing within a couple of days.

Mike Puma confirmed it and said: “His shoulder is “perfect” and he is expected to resume throwing upon return to camp.”

Finally some great and positive news!

I’m so accustomed to always getting bad news on this team, that I was actually stunned for a minute or two before grabbing my tablet and updating this post. It was a surreal moment.

We can all exhale now…

But wait, these were anonymous sources so this could all be a fabrication… 🙂

ESPN’s Adam Rubin tweeted on Wednesday that Jon Niese is to receive an MRI for shoulder pain. He later added that Niese would be returning to New York for the test, a decision that was made around noon Wednesday.

It’s precautionary, according to Terry Collins, who also revealed that Niese has been feeling pain in his triceps since early in camp.

Niese was scheduled to start to start the season opener against the Washington Nationals on March 31. He has had a history with arm injuries, and while no further details have been released, he did suffer from a partial rotator cuff tear last year that kept him out for part of the season. Collins said this soreness is different and unrelated to that.

Fingers crossed…
