Eric-Young2Adam Rubin of ESPN NY writes that Terry Collins offered some positive reports on the Mets’ banged-up players, and said that Eric Young Jr. may be held out of Grapefruit League play through the weekend.

Rubin shared that Young (side muscle) hit off a tee Thursday, while Bartolo Colon (calf) should resume tossing a baseball Friday, according to Collins.

Regarding Colon, Collins shares with Rubin: “He’s doing all his stuff inside. He’s riding the bikes. We just don’t want him running. He’s going to throw tomorrow, I think. Dan [Warthen] is going to try to do something with him to make sure we don’t strain the calf too bad. But everything’s fine.”

The manager shared with Rubin when Young might play in a game: “I asked about Saturday. They actually want to see him on a field a couple of days before we put him in a game. So Sunday would be the earliest, probably. And, if not, Monday or Tuesday.”

It’s still early in the spring and guys still have time to work through minor injuries to get back on the field.
