Game one of the four-game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves, was played in front of 2,158 fans Friday evening at Grayson Stadium. Savannah won 4-2.
Sand Gnats starting pitcher Alex Panteliodis, went 7.2 innings allowing only three hits and two runs (both unearned), to win and even his record at 1-1.
In the first inning, Savannah scored when lead-off hitting Champ Stuart walked. He was able to advance to second on a wild pitch and would eventually score when Dominic Smith doubled.
Rome tied the game at 1-1 in the second inning and would score in the third to lead the game 2-1. The Sand Gnats would answer in the fourth inning scoring two runs. Yeixon Ruiz singled and went to third on a double by Jonathan Johnson. Both runners would score on a single by Stuart.
The final Savannah run was scored in the eighth inning when Jorge Rivero singled and scored on a double by Colton Plaia.
Reliever Akeel Morris picked up his sixth save of the season pitching the ninth inning an striking out two batters.
