Congratulations to Steven Matz for being named MMN’s Pitcher of the Week.
Matz’s performance was so good on June 28th that it was all he needed to earn our Pitcher of the Week honors. Most players I have chosen in the past, usually have had to display two solid starts within the week. However, Mr. Matz’s straight dominance earned him the prize.
In six innings of work, the Long Island native manhandled the Altoona Curve, sending nine batters back to the bench via strikeout. He allowed just five hits and a walk in the process. This beauty came after his AA debut in which he struggled a bit.
Matz is quickly climbing the ranks to earn the honor as the Mets top pitching prospect, especially once Noah Syndergaard graduates to the majors. The lefty is 5-4 on the year in his time between St. Lucie in Binghamton, sporting a gorgeous 2.44 ERA with 75 strikeouts in 81 IP.
Matz is certainly beginning to look like the real deal.
