Dario Alvarez Pitches Sand Gnats To Another Victory

The final game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 2,737 fans Monday at Grayson Stadium.

Savannah won 8-1 to complete the four game sweep.

The Sand Gnats starter Dario Alvarez tossed five shutout innings, allowing only two hits, one walk, and struck out eight. With the win Alvarez is now 5-0 and lowered his ERA to 0.96.

In the first inning, Savannah scored a run when shortstop Yeixon Ruiz singled and advanced to second on a Champ Stuart walk. Then a ground-out double play advanced Ruiz to third and he scored on a balk.

Sand Gnats scored two runs in the 4th inning and two more in the 5th inning.

The lone run for Rome was scored in the 7th inning when right fielder Connor Oliver doubled and scored on a double by center fielder Keith Curcio.

Savannah answered with two additional runs in their half of the 7th inning, when first baseman Dominic Smith doubled, followed by a home run over the left field fence by Matt Oberste, which was his second in his last two games.

After two singles and a walk, Cole Frenzel hit a sac fl to score the final run for Savannah and the game.

Game one of the three game series with the Charleston RiverDogs starts at 7:05 pm Tuesday at Grayson Stadium.
