T.J. Chism – St. Lucie
Chism was a 32nd round pick of the Mets in the 2009 draft and is in his 6th season in the Mets organization. He hasn’t been scored upon in his last five outings dating back to June 28th. During that span, he’s pitched five innings, allowed two hits, walked no one and struck out five, while collecting saves in his last three games. The Lefty from LaSalle College struggled at Binghamton earlier this year with an ERA of 7.65 in 27 innings at AA before settling back in nicely in St. Lucie, where he collected 20 saves during the 2013 campaign.
L.J. Mazzilli – St. Lucie
The Junior Mazzilli has picked up in St. Lucie where he left off in Savannah. In his first 18 games since being promoted, he hit at a .301 clip (22 for 73) and through games played as of July 10th, he was riding a seven game hitting streak. During his latest streak, Mazzilli has been batting .322 (10 for 31) with four runs scored, four doubles, and three RBI.
Dario Alvarez – Savannah
Alvarez was named the South Atlantic Pitcher of the Week. He also hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last seven appearances dating back to May 30th with the last three coming as a starting pitcher. During this stretch, Alavarez has a record of 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 22 innings, allowing 15 hits, walking four, and striking out a whopping 39 batters with a WHIP of 0.86.
Dominic Smith – Savannah
The Mets first round pick in the 2013 draft hasn’t been hitting for power, but he’s certainly been hitting. He’s hit in 12 of his last 14 games, batting .421 (24 for 57) with seven doubles and eight RBI’s.
Ismael Tijerina – Kingsport
The infielder turned pitcher hasn’t allowed a run in his last six appearances out of the Kingsport pen. Since June 22nd, he’s pitched six innings, allowing three hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.
Who’s Not
Julian Hilario – St. Lucie
The Dominican righty has struggled during the 2014 season to the tune of an 8.44 ERA in 32 innings. His struggles have continued of late – in his last two appearances on July 2nd and July 8th, he’s gone 2.2 innings while allowing six earned runs, seven hits, and walking three while striking out just one batter.
Gavin Cecchini – St. Lucie
It’s been a slow adjustment for Cecchini since being promoted from Savannah, hitting just .188 over his first 18 games in advanced A ball. Between July 4th-11th, the Mets first round pick in the 2012 draft managed to just scratch out one single in 17 at bats for a .058 average during that stretch.
