On May 7th this year, Mets pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard had himself what they call a Little League type performance when he was the offensive and pitching star for the Las Vegas 51’s. Noah led the 51’s to an 8-2 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes with a 3 for 4 night at the plate and eight strong innings on the mound.

Syndergaard needed only 95 pitches (whopping 70 for strikes) to get through eight innings in which he allowed two runs on five hits with eight strikeouts and no walks. I was lucky enough to watch this game (part of MiLB.tv package) and Thor was completely dominant except for one pitch that Ben Paulsen hit for a solo homerun. He was using his fastball down in the zone and had complete control of his curveball which the Isotopes hitters had no answer for.

Thor showed off his skills with the bat knocking in two runs, scoring two, and three hits including a 420 foot double off the wall and a booming homerun to straightaway center field. Here you can watch the long homerun. It was his first career pro homerun, of course until he hit one in the Major Leagues less than a month later.

This was also his last minor league start before being promoted by the Mets to make his debut on May 12th against the Cubs.
