Not only did outfielder Alejandro De Aza sign with the Mets this week, he has also signed with the Toros del Este in the Dominican Winter League according to the team. The regular season in the Dominican ended this week with the playoffs beginning this Sunday.
The team will officially announce their playoff roster on Sunday but according to a source De Aza will play in the postseason. The postseason starts with an 18-game round robin between the four teams with the best regular season records. The top two teams will then play in a best-of-9 game series to determine the champion.
De Aza had previously played for the Toros in the DWL during the 2009, 2010, and 2011 seasons. He will join lefty reliever Dario Alvarez as the only two current Mets players on the Toros roster. The Toros did have a slew of former Mets play during the regular season including Cesar Puello, Jefry Marte, Matt Clark, Raul Valdes, and Gonzalez Germen.
