The New Britain Bees have announced that the Mets have signed former MLB right-handed pitcher Josh Zeid. The New Haven, CT native will report to the Binghamton Mets.

The 2004 Gatorade Connecticut High School Player of the Year made his MLB debut with the Astros on the 30th of July 2013. He pitched part of two seasons with the Houston Astros, pitching in 27.2 innings in 2013 and 20.2 innings in 2014. In 2013, he pitched to a 3.90 ERA with a 1.37 WHIP but did not fair well in 2014 with the Astros. In 2014 he had a 6.97 ERA and a 1.79 WHIP. He made his last MLB appearance on July the 24th, 2014.

The 29-year old pitcher was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the tenth round of the 2009 draft. In 2009 and 2010 combined Zeid pitched to a 2.93 ERA while going 16-9 between Low-A and Class-A.

He started his 2011 season in the Phillies organization, but got traded to the Astros as part of the trade that send Hunter Pence to the Phillies for Jarred Cosart, Jon Singleton, and Domingo Santana (PTBNL).

He would pitch in four seasons with the Astros and made his MLB debut there. In 2015, he  was claimed of waivers by the Detroit Tigers. Zeid pitched 70.2 innings for Triple-A Toledo with a 4-3 record and a 4.46 ERA.

This spring he was with the Los Angeles Angels to a minor league deal but they released him at the end of spring training.

He  went to pitch in the Indy ball with the New Britain Bees of the Atlantic league. Zeid made 8 appearances (7 starts) for the Bees going 2-3 with a 5.06 ERA. In 37.2 innings, Zeid struck out 43.

In 2010, he was ranked as the #23 prospect in the Phillies organization according to Baseball America who also said he had the best slider of any pitcher in their minor league system.
