Tyler Bashlor was an 11th round selection by the New York Mets in last week’s MLB draft. He’s a right-handed pitcher that has most recently spent his time with South Georgia College. Frank Sulkowski of WJCL was the first to report the news. Upon officially signing his contract in Port St. Lucie, Sulkowski reports Bashlor will head to Tennessee to join the Kingsport Mets in rookie ball.
Word on the street is the hurler will be signing for approximately $500,000, which is a significant over slot as an 11th round pick. Normally, players in his draft position would get around $100,000.
The scouting report on Bashlor is that his fastball averages around 92-94 mph, but can occasionally touch 97. He combines that with a late-breaking slider that has the ability to turn into a plus pitch. However, his lack of command this past season had most MLB teams view him strictly as a reliever.
A $500,000 price tag seems a bit much for a future reliever, especially when you find out the portion of money the Mets went over gets subtracted from their $6.99 million draft signing pool. We’ll eventually see what Bashlor is made of in a couple weeks once Kingsport’s season gets underway.

Wow- if Bashlor getting 500K is true, the Mets so far are really doling out the overslot signing bonuses- HS SS Guillorme got $63,600 overslot, HS P Dan Herrmann got $100,000 overslot and now Bashlor if true got $400,000 overslot. Hopefully, the Mets will have enough $$$ to sign all 10 of their first 10 picks in the draft.
Wow where did you get this news from??? Smh 🙂
