MMN Recap 8/6: Rivera Keeps Producing, Szapucki Electric Again

  • Gavin Cecchini SS – 4 for 5, 2B, RBI, 2 R, .324/.396/.447
  • T.J. Rivera 3B – 3 for 5, 2 2B, HR, 2 R, 5 RBI, .348/.390/.512

Cecchini is now 11 for last 18 with three doubles and five runs scored. Rivera leads the PCL in average and is tied for third with his 79 RBI. Here is video of his go-ahead double.

  • Josh Smoker LHP – Struck out the side in the 9th, 3rd save, 4.10 ERA

Smoker now has a ridiculous 76 strikeouts in 52.2 innings and hasn’t allowed a run in his last 13 innings.

Hartford Yard Goats 8, Binghamton Mets (52-60) 6 Box Score

Victor Cruzado gave the Mets an early first inning 4-0 lead with a three-run homer, his 7th blast of the year.

Leadoff man Jonathan Johnson doubled, tripled and scored from second on a sac fly.

Wheeler threw 17 pitches with 11 of them coming for strike, topped out at 96 MPH but had his rehab start shortened because of a rain delay. Henderson threw 19 pitches with 14 of them being strikes and topped out at 93 MPH but reportedly had good late life on his fastball.

Fireflies only had four hits on the night and they were all singles.

This was the 21-year old from Colombia full season debut.

Peter Alonso was held hitless after going 5 for 12 in his previous three games.

Szapucki didn’t allow a hit until sixth inning and had his fourth double digit strikeout game in just eight starts this year.

The Mets went just 3 for 14 with runners in scoring position and left ten men on base.

The Mets won despite being outhit 4-2 thanks the four errors by the Phillies.
