The St. Lucie Mets have handed out their Player of the Month Awards for the Month of July naming catcher Tomas Nido as the hitter of the month and left-handed pitcher P.J. Conlon as the pitcher of the month.

Nido was the Mets 2012 eighth round draft pick out of Orangewood Christian High School in Maitland, Florida.  During the month of July, Nido batted .405/.427/.595 with four doubles, a triple, three homers, and 15 RBI.  This is all part of what has been the 22 year old Nido’s breakout season in the minors.  In his 80 games for the St. Lucie Mets, Nido has hit .316/.352/.464 with 22 doubles, one triple, seven homers, and 44 RBI.

Nido was also our player of the month here at MMN.

Conlon was the Mets 2015 13th round draft pick out of the University of San Diego.  During the month of July, Conlon made five starts going 2-1 with a 1.65 ERA, a 0.95 WHIP, 24 strikeouts, and a 8:1 strikeout to walk ratio.  July was the first full month Conlon has pitched for St. Lucie as he began the year with the Columbia Fireflies.  Like Nido, the 22 year old Conlon has had a breakout season going  11-2 with a 1.81 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP between Columbia and St. Lucie.

The previous hitters of the month were John Mora (June), Amed Rosario (April), and Kevin Taylor (May). The previous pitchers of the month were Chris Flexen (June),  Tim Peterson (April), and Ricky Knapp (May). Rosario, Peterson, and Knapp have been called-up to AA Binghamton after having been given their awards.
