According to Baseball America, Brandon Nimmo was ranked the 19th best overall prospect in the Pacific Coast League. He was the highest ranked Mets AAA prospect on a team that also saw Ty Kelly, T.J. Rivera, Seth Lugo, Robert Gsellman, Josh Smoker, and Gabriel Ynoa not only promoted to the majors, but also play a significant role in helping the Mets return to the postseason for a second straight year.

The Mets 2011 first round draft pick, the first one of the Sandy Alderson regime, had a tremendous year in AAA.  Nimmo went from questions about whether he was a major league outfielder to making his MLB debut.

The 23-year old hit .352/.423/.541 with 25 doubles, eight triples, 11 homers, and 61 RBI in 97 games for AAA Las Vegas. He would finish second in the Pacific Coast League in batting average behind teammate Rivera, and he would finish first in OBP. He also finished in the Top 10 in triples (seventh), slugging (fourth), and OPS (second).

Between Nimmo’s outstanding season and Michael Conforto‘s struggles, Nimmo left the Mets no choice but to call him up this year for a few cups of coffee. In 32 games for the Mets, Nimmo would hit a respectable .274/.338/.329 with a double, a homer, and six RBI. The homer he hit was a tape measure shot that was the second longest hit by a Met in Citi Field history.

Down the stretch, he was a valuable pinch hitter for the Mets. Overall, it was a tremendous season of growth for Nimmo that will lay the foundation for him being a fixture in the Mets outfield for years to come.
